총회(차기 회장 선임) 및 신년 모임 안내

한국예일동창회 (Yale Club of Korea) 회장 김영준입니다. 먼저, 2023년 올해에도 동문과 가족 여러분들에게 건강과 행운이 가득하시길 기원 드립니다. 지난 저의 동창회장 재임 3년 기간 중 코로나19로 인하여 2020년과 2021년 2년 동안 정상적인 모임이나 행사를 거의 개최할 수 없었던 점 매우 아쉽게 생각합니다. 다행히 작년 2022년에는 동문들과 대면 행사를 비교적 활발하게 진행할 수 있었습니다. 특히 지난 해 6월 16일 <우리옛돌박물관>(성북동 소재)의 야외 옥상에서 개최된 <2022 Yale Summer dinner Party>에는 학부 신입생과 부모, 그리고 시니어 그룹 동문과 졸업생 등 많은 분들이 참석하여 성황리에 진행되었으며, 행사 당일 예일학부 아카펠라 그룹 Whim 'n Rhythm의 축하 공연도 굉장히 인상적이었습니다. 이어 지난 해 10월 18일 <두손갤러리>(종로구 소재)에서 열린 <2022 Yale Year End Reception>에서는 <한반도 평화>를 주제로 한 특별 콘서트가 진행되기도 하였습니다. 지난 해 3회에 걸친 예일동문 골프 모임(Yale Golf Outing)을 개최하여 동문들의 친목 도모 기회를 마련하였습니다. 이와 아울러 "국가-투자자 간 분쟁"을 주제로 한 오찬 포럼(연사: 신희택 동문)을 한국예일동창회와 하버드법대 동창회 공동으로 개최하였습니다. 이제 저의 "팬데믹" 시기 동창 회장 임기를 뒤로 하고, 차기 한국예일동문장 선임을 위한 총회 및 신년 모임을 아래와 같이 개최하고자 합니다. 많은 관심과 참석 부탁드립니다. 장소: 한일관 압구정점(서울 강남구 압구정로38길 14 일시: 2023년 2월 7일(화) 저녁 6시 (yalekorea@aya.yale.edu로 RSVP 부탁드립니다! 장소 관계로 조기 마감 양해 부탁드립니다) 끝으로 매우 반가운 소식을 동문 여러분 모두와 공유하고 싶습니다. 예일 본교의Peter Salovey 총장이 오는 3월 서울 방문 예정입니다. 한국예일동창회는 오는 3월 24일(금) 저녁 6시 Salovey 총장의 환영 리셉션(신라호텔 영빈관)을 개최할 계획입니다. 지난 2009년 가을 Levin 총장의 한국 방문 이래 오랜 시간이 지났습니다. 그러므로 이번 Peter Salovey 총장의 한국 방문에 대한 기대가 여느 때보다 더 높습니다. 동창회 사무국은 이른 시일 내에 RSVP 요청과 아울러 세부 일정을 다시 한번 공지 드릴 예정입니다. 다시 한번 동문 여러분들에게 2023년 3월 24일 저녁 6시 Peter Salovey 총장과의 만찬 참석 확인 부탁드립니다. 그 동안 한국예일동창회에 보내주신 관심과 성원에 진심으로 감사드리며, 차기 회장의 새로운 리더쉽을 통한 동창회의 더 많은 발전 기대합니다 감사합니다! 2023년 1월 17일 한국예일동창회장(President_Yale Club of Korea) 김영준 Dear Yale Club of Korea members: First, my sincerest best wishes to all of you and your families for a healthy, happy and prosperous new year of 2023! It has been so nice to have had a relatively active 2022 with many in-person events with YCK members, after two challenging Covid years of limited opportunities for gathering. The highlight of the year must have been the rooftop dinner at the Stone Art Museum on June 16 with Whim ‘n Rhythm and generations of alumni, students and parents. It was followed by a dinner reception on October 18 at the Duson Gallery and a special concert with the theme of peace on the Korean peninsula. We also managed to hold three golf outings. And for some intellectual stimulus, YCK also held a luncheon speaker forum on the topic of “state-investor dispute”. As my “pandemic” presidency comes to an end, it will soon be time for me to pass on the baton to the next leader of YCK, and there will shortly be an announcement for the process of implementing the transition. Before I close, I want to share one especially good news with all of you. President Peter Salovey will be visiting Seoul and YCK will be hosting a welcome reception for President Salovey on Friday, March 24. It has been too many years since the last Korea visit by a Yale President. So we are excited about the upcoming Presidential visit. YCK secretariat will be sending out details with RSVP request soon. In the meantime, PLEASE SAVE THE DATE OF MARCH 24, 2023 for the Yale Presidential Reception! Event: Talk by Professor Stephen Roach on His New Book - Accidental Conflict (Thursday, December 8th, 2022, 7:30pm) Event: Talk by Professor Stephen Roach on His New Book - Accidental Conflict (Thursday, December 8th, 2022, 7:30pm) Please join Professor Stephen Roach’s talk on Thursday, December 8th at 7:30 pm Yale Beijing Center and YCHK are hosting a talk by Stephen Roach on his new book, Accidental Conflict. Among the Financial Times' Best Books of 2022 (in economics), the book argues that conflict escalation between the world’s two superpowers wouldn’t have happened had it not been for the false narratives that both countries embrace in blaming each other for their own economic and political shortcomings. These false narratives, amplified by information distortion and social networks, are more a reflection of each nation’s exaggerated fears of the other than an honest self-assessment of serious problems of their own making. Unfortunately, this blame game continues to intensify. An innovative roadmap for conflict resolution is presented as an urgent action plan that should be seriously considered by both sides before it is too late.
